I have purchased two Oxford dictionaries over the years; currently I use the Oxford "Shorter Dict." but I see it has now been discontinued, as the previous one was. This is frustrating: I am wary to make yet another purchase just to get updates. Is there a version of the Oxford that will be maintained longer term?

Hello there,

Thank you so much for reaching out to us.

Yes, we do apologize for that, the Shorter Oxford Dictionary is available on the Play Store, but we did stop updating for now at least.

We do have an Oxford Dictionary of English here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai...l=en&gl=US that we update on a regular basis and even plan to add a Thesaurus to it.

You can use it for free at first so you can test it out and let us know if it is for you.

Sincerely,
There is no single Oxford that will be maintained long-term. The University of Oxford is a complex and diverse institution that will continue to grow and change over the next several decades.

"There is no single Oxford that will be maintained long-term" — so you're saying that a new dictionary must be purchased every couple of years? These apps are not cheap.
There isn't a single Oxford that will be kept up over time. Throughout the coming decades, the University of Oxford will continue to develop and transform into a more intricate and diversified organization.
